For those of you nearby, willing to see a great concert, here’s a tiny hint: Tift Merritt will play at the Pumpenhaus, which is a great venue for this kind of music. I’ve already seen Eleni Mandell and Howe Gelb there – both just grand! If you have nothing planned for February 15th, go see Tift. Besides that she is totally worth it, she is an amazing performer and musician and a very good looking woman. Check her out:

Amongst the most pleasurable moments in life are these rare nights where a cold beer, a little stage with golden shimmering lampshades and a new unheard acustic sound awakens and amazes the inner ghosts, which would be rather well asleep at that time. An interesting new sound that brings the inner self back to a more concious state of mind: gazing and listening.

Some Chords, some Tunes and a PowerPoint presentation – Sarah Bettens on Tour
November 21, 2008, 1:18 pm

Knowing that she has never been the person of grand words or an overwhelmingly communicative behaviour, it should not have been so much surprising that she chose a tape recorder to connect her stage performance with the expectations of the listener, visually accompanied by some black and white PowerPoint slides. It were great words by great artists, mostly spoken a long time ago, mostly reflecting stardom or the music business in general. Once someone else finished his or her meaningful quote, Sarah played a couple of chords and started to sing again, which she is just great at, don’t get me wrong. However, as soon as the song was over and a shy smile later, the next PowerPoint slide lit up and some clanging speakerphone voice went off to say something meaningful again.

A Songbird with New Songs: Wallis Bird Rocked the Gleis 22!

Whoever of you thought “Ah … nah, can’t come, got something else planned.” Well, … wrong decision people, wroooong decision!

Wallis was beyond great as usual. It took her two minutes to make the venue a dancing palace, people just loved her. About half of the set contained her new stuff and it never occured to me once that something sounded raw or unfinished. I am convinced that you don’t even need to buy the next album to get into the songs more, because they grow on you live in an instant. (Which does not mean that it wouldn’t be money well spent to actually buy the album.)
